Project masterpiece
About to get down to business with a large blank canvas.
It's been a long time since I did this. Attempting to create something pretty for Project Girl Den.
I made my canvas... it's 2.5ft x 5ft
It cost me 2 dollars. A trip to Home Depot for wood, and an old bed sheet.
You'll need a staple gun too. (and nails and a hammer)
2 dollars people.
Look at canvas prices at Curry's and DeSerres and make your best snooty face. I do.
(Anyone that tells you this homemade canvas/bedsheet method sucks is wrong.
I've been using them for years. and depending on how crappy your bedsheet may be, it will add texture to your painting. Which is the absolute best.)
I'm painting something that looks like a fashion illustration. A contour drawing... sort of sketchy. I am thinking no colour, and if I stick with that, then by "no colour" I mean lots of creams, greys, and visible brush strokes.
This is my inspiration:
Jay Hyde Crawford
Carl Erickson
Kenneth Paul Block
Until next time,
yours truly,

Fifteen

I know, I should totally be posting photos of the new shelving/desk office but the only ones I have are iphone shots that make the space look like a dungeon. So you'll have to wait! In the meantime I have ripped 15 pages out of an old Vogue cover book I found in a thrift store long ago and I am EXCITED. Mini fun project. They are pieces of art, and they will be hung up in my home.

C'est magnifique! I was thinking about black frames, no matting, but then I saw this. Fancy shmancy. Now I am on the hunt for 15 gold frames that won't make my bank account grumpy. I have yet to decide on a home for this project, but I'm leaning towards the upstairs hallway as it is currently naked. We are also painting the front door red tomorrow... please stay wonderful, weather.

Vibing Mathias Goeritz
Today I ate my weight in sushi and now I am just trying to keep myself busy, so I don't fall in to a coma forever. Hi blog.
So over here giant gold art was mentioned. I didn't think much of it at first, but later when I was thinking for the billionth time how fairly empty our walls are (STILL), it started haunting me.
Originally I wanted to go out and buy a giant canvas and paint that mofo gold. But that stuff is EXPENSIVE. (Especially the size I wanted. I am talking like minimum 6ft long, please). Then I thought I'd go to ikea and pick up one of their decently sized RIBBA frames for 35 bucks. But then I got there and realized I wasn't even 100% sure about this whole thing, so I just opted for a 13 dollar NYTTJA frame. You know, to test the waters. (As you can see, I was just being a big sissy about the whole thing)
I used gold paint that I had hanging around here, but it's from the dollar store.
Conclusion? I like. I like it a lot. I could do without the black frame. It also looks cool with some of the other gold-y stuff in this space

So hopefully someday soon there will be a new post presenting a bigger and more badass version of this one. (As soon as I get my act together and build a frame with all the scrap wood we have here. I am awesome at stretching canvas, forreals.)

Minimal movie posters
Movie posters are soooo college dorm room. But I think with the right framing, some of these minimal designs could look prettttty cool. Some are a little too minimal if you ask me, but I think in the right space they could be just the right touch.
Tons more to go through:
